How to give a user membership of a user group based on their IP Address

Sometimes it is useful to be able to treat some visitors to the site differently, based on the IP address they are browsing from.

  1. In the User Group Manager, right-click on a User Group, and select "Guest Membership".
  2. In the "IP Addresses" section, click "Add..."
  3. Enter a specific IP address. (You cannot use masks)
  4. OK out, and click Apply.

Now when someone from that IP address visits the site they will be treated as a member of that usergroup, (in addition to being a member of the 'Visitor' usergroup, and, if they are logged in, of any others their login gives them access to).

Their membership of the user group lasts only so long as they are visiting from the qualifying IP address. If they later browse from elsewhere they will not then be seen as a member of that user group.
