BackupneatComponents includes a backup script that can be run automatically by the Server itself: nC will create a daily backup on a seven-day rotation. To schedule backups, create a new Windows Scheduled Task with the following run value: cscript "C:\Program Files\Enstar\neatComponents\scripts\Backup.wsf" /b "C:\Program Files\Enstar\Backups" Note: On 64-bit Operating Systems use: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cscript "C:\Program Files\Enstar\neatComponents\scripts\Backup.wsf" /b "C:\Program Files\Enstar\Backups" Adjust paths to match the nC installation and desired backup location. Note that paths containing spaces such as "Program Files" must be surrounded by double quotes as above. The above line can also be typed at a command line for an immediate backup. Restore To restore from a backup, copy the contents of a backup folder to a desired location for an nC install and then run an msi using this directory as the target for the installation, e.g. restore to C:\Program Files\Enstar\neatComponents
More information Naturally, it is most important to check on a regular basis that the backup has taken place, in case some process outside of neatComponents' control has prevented the task from running. The backup should be scheduled to take place at a known quiet time on the system, normally in the early hours of the morning, as the sites will be briefly 'off-line' during the actual back-up procedure. You may use conventional proprietary backup software to copy the nC-backup elsewhere. This should be scheduled to run some other time - not whilst the nC-backup is running. Do not apply conventional back-up software directly onto the neatComponents folders. We also suggest that from time to time you make a hard copy (CD/DVD) of a backup, and that you keep that 'off-site' in case of catastrophic failure such as fire or flood. This will provide you with a snap-shot of the system, with all its data and configuration. |
